"Academic Coaching" (Assignment #3)

Do you see yourself as an "Academic Coach"? Check out the article (in left column under "Article & Tips") and let me know what you think by writing a 1 paragraph reflection by Dec 2 (Tu). Also, Candice wanted me to remind everyone that on your time sheets, please put "18907" in the Program line instead of 18902.

We would like to welcome Aaron Gorospe and Jordan Morales to our Waipahu High Family. Currently Aaron is working with ELL classes and Jordan is helping out at the Career Center.

Thanks for all you do for the students and teachers ! Have a Great Thanksgiving with your family and friends.

Tutoring Scenarios... (Assignment 2)

Hi Gang,

Thanks for your insightful reflections on the article "Give a man a fish...". I'm glad that most of you were able to get something helpful from the article. I really appreciate that all of you are teachable and still willing to learn how to be a better tutor.

Here's another piece of reading for you (see left column "Tutoring Scenerios and Potential Problems."). Please post your reflections on these different scenerios you might encounter with your tutees. Also if you have any other common scenarios to share, please share it with us and tell us how you dealt with it. The reflection is due on 9/19 (Fri). Thanks everyone.

Dress Code

Hi Everyone,

Just a friendly reminder that all of you should dress appropriately and adhere to the WHS dress code. If you are not sure what our dress code is, please see our policy posted in any of the classroom walls/board. Remember, we want the students to draw attention to their work at hand and not the tutor. If you have questions about what is deemed "appropriate", please ask either Freeman or Candice. Thanks for your cooperation in this matter.

PPT / PTT Professional Development (Assignment #1)

Hi PPTs & PTTs,

Periodically, I'll be posting some professional development articles/websites about tutoring & teaching and how to be a better tutor / teacher on this BLOG for all of you to read. After you have read it, I would like for you to write me a reflection comment (one paragraph minimum) on the "comment" link of the assigment posting to let me know your thoughts on the matter and also, it will serve as a way to help you grow professionally as a tutor and teacher. The comment section also helps us to show evidence that you are being trained and updated as a Tutor and Part Time Teacher

Your first article to read will be "Give a man a fish..." on the left hand column. Please write your reflection under the comment section of this post. Your assignment will be due on 9/2. Would you write your initials at the end of each of your comments please.

PPT / PTT Agreement & Guidelines

Please print and read the attached "PPT / PTT Agreements & Guidelines" on the left hand corner under PPT / PTT Documents. Upon agreeing on the guidelines, please sign it and have all your supervisory teachers sign it and return it to either Freeman or Candice in H10. We will then sign it and make a copy for your records. Also, please read the "PPT / PTT Performance Assessment" document to see how you will be assessing yourself as well as how your supervisory teachers will be assessing you at the end of each semester. And finally, feel free to make copies of the "PPT / PTT Daily Activities Sheets" to be turned in to Candice along with your bi-weekly timesheets. Thanks everyone.

Title I Federal Funding

Hi PPTs,

Currently, all of you are funded by Title I, a federal program to help students who are furthest away from proficiency and therefore there are strict accountability policies we must all comply with. Please refer to this blog for new updates, schedules, professional development, and all the information needed for your PPT / PTT position. Feel free to make comments on this blog or contact us with any questions.
